[Acts 10:33]Text Box: “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed, we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed —2 Cor. 4:8-9

Paul must have been writing this with the 21st century in mind. Turn on FOX news or CNN and you will find trouble on every side, perplexing problems with seemingly no solutions and stories of people enduring unimaginable tragedy. Yet Paul could, in the same breath, say he was not distressed, or in despair, nor cast down. Why? Because he believed in the God of the “but-not’s.” When life sends us trouble, perplexity, persecution, etc., God is the “but not.” We are preserved, not pickled. Are you troubled? Don’t be distressed. Are you perplexed? Don’t be in despair. Do you feel persecuted? You are not forsaken. Do you feel cast down? You shall not be destroyed. Why? Because greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world. May we be able to say with confidence the words of Paul, “I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed to him against that day”
